What do I need for a private second opinion?

You normally need a clear question, relevant medical records and a confirmed quote. Establish whether the fee buys a written records review, an appointment, or both; tests and ongoing treatment may be separate.

Confirm the service before sharing records

Ask about the specialist’s relevant experience, appointment format, report contents, total fee and expected timescale. Check how follow-up questions are handled. Do not assume a written report includes an examination.

Prepare the records securely

Ask the provider which clinic letters, test reports, original scan images, medicine list and treatment history it needs. Transfer these directly through the provider’s secure process. Compare Local Care does not collect your medical records.

Agree who acts on the advice

A second opinion may support the existing plan or suggest something different. Arrange to discuss it with your treating clinician. Private advice does not automatically create NHS funding or a new appointment.
