Identify the cost you need help with
Make a list of the costs involved, including follow-up visits and travel. The NHS Business Services Authority provides the official starting point for help with NHS health costs. Social care assessments and funding follow separate routes.
- Prescriptions and prescription prepayment options
- NHS dental treatment
- Sight tests, glasses and contact lenses
- Travel for eligible NHS treatment
- Personal care, nursing care and home adaptations
Use the official eligibility checker
Read the current eligibility rules and application instructions on the official service before claiming an exemption. Our funding finder points you to those services; it does not determine eligibility or submit a claim.
Ask for written information
For care services or private treatment, ask what a quoted price includes, which charges might be additional, and the cancellation arrangements. A directory entry or CQC registration does not establish the fees currently charged.
Sources and further information
This guide explains how to find and interpret service information. It does not assess an individual’s care needs or determine eligibility.
